Bisphenol A – a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. BPA is also used in making thermal paper such as that used in sales receipts. Concerns about the health effects of BPA have led many manufacturers to replace BPA with substitutes such as bisphenol S (BPS).
